Senior Services
Lake Morton Senior Center was started in 1988 when Catholic Charities became aware of
a need for senior services and programs in Lakeland. The program is designed to offer
services to support seniors who are living independently or with family members and are
in need of peer socialization. It offers the opportunity for interaction, companionship,
stimulation, wellness programs, nutrition and provides a respite for caregivers. Lake Morton
Senior Center focuses on quality, cost effective and relevant services for senior citizens
residing in the greater Lakeland area.
During the morning hours seniors can participate in various card and board games. There
are seminars on relevant topics, live entertainment, seasonal parties and events, and health
screenings. They can purchase clothing and household items from our low cost thrift shop and
enjoy hunting for a bargain. There is a lending library in a living room setting where they
can sit quietly or in small groups and read. Twice a week were having arm chair exercise and a
meditation class to improve physical and mental activity. They can watch a movie and eat popcorn
on Tuesday mornings. All of these services are provided without charge. Polk County has blood
pressure and diabetic screenings at the center. A hot lunch is served daily in conjunction with
the County’s Fellowship Dining program with a fee of $1.00 per meal.
After lunch, we provide low cost Bingo twice a week, yoga class, art class, craft
class and line dancing weekly.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group meets monthly at our site.
Lake Morton Senior Center is currently located in the Fellowship Dining Hall of Westminster
Presbyterian Church. In the Fall of 2006, we are planning to move into our own facility at
which will allow for program growth.
Lake Morton Senior Center is the only senior Center in Lakeland that provides continuous daily
activities and a home away from home for seniors Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
